ROOTS
Black roots creep in and overlap with iconic landscapes of ancient and modern cities. The roots represent our unconscious. The “Roots” sequence ranges from ancient to modern landscapes, from the past to the present and carried out over a long period from 1976 to 1997. No digital processing, whatsoever, has been carried out.
The “Roots” series is representative of the surreal approach to photography I was fascinated by at the beginning of my artistic career, in terms of an analysis of the photographic language by exploiting and denying the apparent realism of photography and in philosophical terms as a critique of the concept of “reality”, a theme that I have gone onto develop.
Radici nere si insinuano e sovrappongono a paesaggi iconici di città antiche e moderne. Le radici rappresentano il nostro inconscio. La sequenza “Radici” va dai paesaggi antichi a quelli moderni, dal passato al presente e realizzata durante un lungo periodo di tempo che va dal 1976 fino al 1997. Non c’è nessuna elaborazione digitale, ma un processo analogico e manuale.
La serie “Radici” è rappresentativa dell’approccio surreale alla fotografia che mi ha affascinato nella prima parte della mia ricerca artistica, sia in termini di analisi del linguaggio fotografico, sfruttando e nel contempo negando l’apparente realismo della fotografia, sia in termini filosofici come critica rispetto al concetto di “realtà”, un tema che ho ulteriormente sviluppato in seguito.
